• What do you do?Sell cars for Holden
• What qualifications do you need to get this job?
I have lots of customer service certificates from the training Holden has supplied. Knowing the product well definitely helps. Lots of studying up on the opposition also helps as other brands are still fantastic value. When I started I was put on a sales course which pointed out all the aspects of vehicle sales. On every new Holden vehicle an in-depth training course begins. With every new vehicle, long hours and a vehicle launch must follow.
• How do you get your foot in the door?
Start at the bottom and work your way up! I started as a groomer and did that for approx 3 months. I worked hard and used my initiative whenever possible. Soon after grooming I moved into a Service Advisor role - a role I thouraghly enjoyed. Approx 4 years later I moved into the Sales Adminstrator role. Now I'm selling!
• Salary range?
This varies depending on how well you sell. Generally you have a retainer then it depends on how well you sell. Most of your income wil come from selling. The world is your oyster!
• What hours do you do? Days of work?
Generally a 48 hr week, but then if you put every second Saturday in there 9-3pm, that makes it a 54 hr week! Then any launches. Monday - Friday, and every second Saturday.
• Do you get a company vehicle?
Yes, we need to be driving the entire Holden range so we know how our vehicles drive.
• To you get to attend many functions/events?
I personally make an effort to get involved where ever possible. Anything from dirt bike events to Ruapuna. Holden also puts on quite a few golf events and has a strong presence at the A&P show.
• Normal time off?
Yes, however following up with clients regularly makes it difficult to take long periods off.
• Any perks to the job?
Car, Petrol and cellphone are all covered! And I have a lot of Holden clothing that has been provided to me over the years - including a work suit, wet weather gear, jackets and polos.
• Any downsides to the job?
The cold wet days, having to walk around outside and get soaking wet moving cars!
