Opening its doors to the people of Christchurch in 1997, Base Bar and Nightclub has grown in strength since its inception. After moving from its more humble beginnings on Colombo St two years ago, Base is now located in the very trendy SOL Precinct on Struthers Lane.
With its tenacious hold on the Christchurch dance scene, Base has attracted a wide variety of people – newcomers and regulars mingle to create the charged atmosphere which so many revere. By day, the entranceway can look very unassuming to the non-discerning pedestrian however come nighttime, the red carpet is rolled out and the doors opened to entice the crowd into the spectacle of lights and moving sounds.
Home to many talented DJs and lineups of both national and international artists, Base caters for a huge range of taste. Events see the club packed - with a lowered dance floor and many visual effects, it’s very hard not to be swept along with the crowd and energy they produce. And if dancing’s not really your thing, there’s plenty of comfortable seating around where you can enjoy the experience and not scare the others off the floor!
The good time had by many is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff. From the more than capable door security and bar staff (who may throw a trick or two while you wait for your drink) and the ever present Simon (one of the owners), makes it virtually impossible to leave and not be waiting for the next time you can return.
For the slynkey girls who have yet to experience Base, I can assure you the toilets are clean, the drinks fantastic and you don’t have to spend half your night trying to fob off drunken males trying to grope you on the dance floor. They also provide a coat check, as well as a room for hire for private functions. And of course, there’s the fantastic music to keep you going all night....so what are you waiting for?
