Knee High Boots for Winter

While I’m sure none of us are happy about the weather turning crappy & the re-emergence of the poly-props, one of the good things about cooler weather is we can break out and buy new knee high boots! Knee high boots are magic. They can make chunky calves appear slimmer, cover lower leg flaws (such as hairy legs & winter pastiness) and of course keep your legs warm and looking incredibly chic.

The adddition of tights can make your shorter summer skirts wearable throughout winter and they are just plain sexy! The only real problem with knee high boots is finding the right pair for your lovely legs - but here is a bit of a help with that:

The Best Knee High Boots for Larger Legs:

Women with larger legs who find it difficult finding a boot to fit should look for a pair of stretch boots. If you're not accustomed to them, they might seem difficult to put on at first. The trick is scrunching down the shaft, like you would a stocking, and inserting your foot into the boot, then pulling the shaft up over your calf. Chunkier heels are also good for heavier legs as they can make your leg appear slimmer.

The best Knee High boots for Thinner Legs
Women with skinny ankles might prefer a boot with a bit of structure or bulk to it - western styles and slouch boots are good choices, as a non-scrunched boot is probably going to scrunch eventually as your skinny pins don’t take up all the slack! Look for a more slender heel, as heavy heels can make your legs look even thinner. Otherwise you can get your boots taken in for around $50 at most shoe repair places.

A look that goes hand and hand with your knee high boots this winter is the “jeans inside boots” look: First start with your skinniest/ most tapered jeans. (this should be easy with all of us breaking out the super skinnys now) Now wrap the botom of the jean around your ankle and pull a long sock up over it all. Now it should be smooth enough shape to slide your foot into your boot, and not look bulky or stretch your boot's shape. The sock will also stop the jean leg from scrunching out the top of the boot.
