Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans have gone in and out of popularity over the years, first popular with the birth of rock 'n' roll in the ’50s, when Elvis donned slim-fitting jeans and all the rock stars rocked out in skinny jeans!

Then they were popular again in the punk movement of the late 1970s, worn by lots of bands and scene leaders such as The Clash and the Ramones.

Skinny jeans were also very popular in the 1980s, with most heavy metal bands squeezing into ther skinnies, however with the rise of grunge music in the early nineties, skinny jeans (and anything tight fitting) quickly went out of favour.

Skinny jeans have returned to the catwalks in the last couple of years with Kate Moss having been credited with inspiring the trend. Skinny jeans are definitely one of this winters staple items.

As it is always the tighter the better, stretch denims are used a lot to enable you to get a skin tight fit and in some really skinny styles, zips are needed at the bottom of the leg to even get them over your foot!

Trend alert: Coloured skinny jeans are sneaking into the shops and this will be the evolution of the style - watch for white pinks & blues!

Other names for the skinny jean include carrot leg pants, cigarette pants, drainpipes, peg leg pants, tapered pants or ice-cream cone pants.
