Winter is creeping in now and it is the perfect time to adjust your makeup for the colder months. Heres some tips & tricks for your makeup this winter:WINTER BASE
The number one winter faux pas slynkey girls is to keep wearing the same foundation you used all summer. At this time of year your complexion is paler and you have lost your summer tan, so wearing too dark a shade of foundation can look very fake. You should have two different foundations, or colours you buy - one (darker one) for Summer and (a lighter one) for Winter. Remember you can still create a nice sun-kissed look with Bronzer across your cheeks and nose – just apply it where the sun would hit.
Your skin is drier in winter, and any dry skin is going to be highlighted by your foundation. So moisturising should be kicked up a notch, invest in a nice rich night-time moisturiser so you wake up hydrated and ready to go! You also have to keep up with the sunscreen – The NZ sun is harmful and aging even in winter and not all makeup ranges have any SPF protection in them (check yours!). Your cheeks will be a bit rosier naturally in winter so lighten up the blush too.
WINTER EYESIn winter you can go for more dramatic looks with your eye makeup, your hair will probably be darker (and void of any sun-bleached highlights), you will probably be wearing more dark coloured clothes and warm knits so your overall look can balance a more intense and heavy makeup look.
Smokey eyes (usually a night time only look in the summer months) are fabulous for daytime, or anytime in winter and you can experiment with all those gorgeous greys, blacks, purples and blacks lurking in your makeup case that are just too dark for the warmer months.
WINTER LIPS
Although you should stick with the “only 1” rule – and either have intense eyes OR lips – not both, Winter is the time you can get away with a more berry-coloured or darker lip colour. The smaller your lips are, the darker you can go with your lip colour. But for the 'Angelina Jolie' pouts among us, sticking to more neutral colours will avoid your lips entering a room 5 minutes before you do.
Good luck with your winter look ladies – think sexy vixen ice queen!
