Teeth whitening is something that we are all interested in. Nothing makes your eyes look brighter and gives you a healthy look than sparkly white teeth! With coffee, smoking and food staining, most of our teeth can get pretty yellowed and stained - yuck!.Chemical whitening is the most common and affordable way of whitening and the process that I tried recently. First you go to the dentist and get a mold made of your teeth. I visited the lovely Jeremy at Bradley and Wood Dentists in Christchurch. The mold is used to make plastic trays that fit snuggly on your teeth, and about a week later my trays were ready to be picked up.
You also get a plastic wallet with syringes of the chemical whitening solution and an instruction pamphlet. Jeremy took me through the pamphlet and demonstrated how to fill the trays and place them on my teeth.
For 1 hour a day for 14 days in a row, you need to fill the fronts of the trays, and slip them over your teeth. - It was perfect while just watching tv or on the computer, the hour went pretty fast. Not the most comfortable feeling in the world, it just like wearing a mouth guard. And resiting the urge to lick and swallow the solution (which doesn't taste flash anyway) takes a bit of practice - But
I did notice my gums receeded a little bit (see the tiny hole that has appeared between my 2 front top teeth), but my gums actually looked a nicer lighter pink colour by the end of the fortnight. Jeremy assured me that my gums will fill that space back in over time - And even since this photo was taken the gap is smaller.
I am really happy with the results and it is terrible when you see how discoloured your teeth used to be! Your teeth should stay that colour for at least a few years before they discolour again, and at around $585 that is not too bad at all to have lovely white teeth!
