With the harsh winter winds and days inside next to drying air conditioning, your lips can suffer - Dry, cracked lips are not a good look - And not to mention painful!
Like other parts of our body, the skin of the lips is made of epidermis and dermis. However, unlike the other parts of the body, the dermis of the skin on the lips doesn't have any hairs or sweat gland, making your lips very vunerable. So here are a few tips & ways and tips to keep those puckers beautiful!
- Don’t overlook your lips - As they are exposed to the elements directly, they are just like your hair and need a lot of care. Purchase a night cream for your lips!
- With any skincare, the first rule should be HYDRATE your lips. Look for creams with skin-exfoliating AHAs (alpha-hydroxy-acids), moisturisers, Vitamins A and E and an SPF 15.
- Massage dry lips with a generous dollop of vasoline. Allow it to get to work for a couple of minutes to soften your skin. Then, gently rub your lips with a warm, damp facecloth. As the vasoline is removed, the dry dead flakes of skin will come with it.
- Avoid over exposure to sun and use a lip balm containing sun-block whenever you are going outside. Think of your lips as the precious skin it is!
- Keep your whole body including your lips well hydrated by drinking lots of water (8-10 glasses daily).
- Avoid frequent lip licking or picking your lips. It irritates the skin, and un-dos any efforts you make on your lips!
- Make sure you take vitamin supplements. Cronic dry lips or cracks in the corner of the mouth can indicate a deficiency of Vitamin B2.
