Geek chic (of course pronounced "geek sheek") is a style movement that refers to embracing stereotypically unpopular and geeky traits such as glasses.

Geek chic wearers take key pieces of typically nerdy wardrobes and wear them with intention to make a statement.
 
While the phrase has only been coined recently, the trend itself is not entirely new. Elton John, James Dean, Buddy Holly and Diane Keaton were, or have been, pulling off the look for years.
 
Recent converts to the trend include singer Madonna and her daughter Lourdes who have both been spotted touting large pairs of black-rimmed eyewear. Prescribed or not, fashion commentators have praised Madonna’s latest fashion accessory and called geek glasses the fashion must have of 2010.
