Wagamama Newmarket
Auckland's horrible traffic made me thankful when I got to Wagamama that it was in such a great central location. Decent availability of parking and in the heart of fashionable Newmarket on fashionable Nuffield Street made life easy.
Walking in, the full seats make me glad I've booked in advance. The place is buzzing and full of couples and families alike, devouring what looks like some very tasty meals.
Despite the rush, our waitress is calm and cheerful, taking the time to show us to our table and explain the menu, which can be tricky for first timers. Being modeled on ramen bars which are popular in Japan, the interior is all dark wood. Our table is at the front of the restaurant and overlooks the street outside. The rest of the seating is set up as long benches, with different parties spaced out along them.
Its a always a good sign when there are too many good things to choose from, which is the case for me. So much good food, and a severe case of indecision make for an arduous choice.
In the end it's teriyaki all round - I'm swayed by the teriyaki steak soba while Stuart opts for the teriyaki chikinraisu. And a side of edamame to share. (Edamame are the most delicious freshly steamed soya beans served with salt and soya sauce - definitely a must try slynkey girls!).
Service is quick and friendly, and the wine and beer selection pretty good. There are some great Japanese beers on offer. Stuart goes for Asahi and I have plum wine. Top marks for having one of my favorite savs on the menu.
Our meals arrive at different times, and there is a bit of a wait for mine to make its appearance. But as the menu explains, meals are delivered as soon as it is ready to ensure that it's fresh.
Having said that the food is piping hot, well cooked and very tasty. The meals are a decent size and very filling.
With food this good we can't help but go for dessert. Stuart chooses a nice refreshing sorbet while I go for a delicious white chocolate and ginger cheesecake. The perfect way to finish our meal!
All in all it was great food at a reasonable price (which is good because I was paying!) and a good night out in Newmarket.

Went to Wagamama's Sylvia Park with a girlfriend for her Birthday yesterday, had their famous Yaki Soba, yummo, love their green Tea too. Wagamama just do everything so well, number one in my book for casual, friendly, eating!!
I LOVE Wagamama! Besides the delicious mains (I like to try something different each time but it's hard not to pick favourites as well!), the edamame starter is a must-have and their juices are DIVINE!
